Dry Eye Syndrome is an eye disorder characterized by a lack of oil or tears in the exterior layer of the eye. While the severity of symptoms will vary from patient to patient, most Dry Eye Syndrome sufferers may experience the following: frequent irritation or stinging in the eyes, a feeling of having a foreign particle in the eye, red sclera, a burning sensation, occasionally blurred vision, and watery/teary eyes. The condition can be exacerbated by common lifestyle risk factors, which include prescription and over-the-counter medications like antihistamines and antidepressants, prolonged screen exposure through computer and cellphone use, the wearing of contact lenses, low humidity environments, and pre-existing health issues such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

You don't have to suffer from the debilitating effects of Dry Eye Syndrome. Our Ophthalmology center offers a comprehensive selection of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to accurately diagnose the specific type of dry eye and administer the optimal corresponding treatment. Good Eyelid Hygiene: Why is it Important?

  • Promotes and maintains the health of the eyelids and ocular surface.
  • Improves overall comfort of the eyes and eyelids.
  • Removes debris from the lids and eyelashes.
  • Improves the stability of the tear film, thus reducing blurry vision.
  • Reduces fatigue caused by excessive use of electronic devices.
  • Improves comfort with contact lens wear.

TearCare

TearCare is a 15-minute in-office procedure used to treat dry eye disease due to meibomian gland disorders (MGD). The sterile single-use flexible eyelid devices gently adhere to the contours of the patient’s eyelids and apply low heat. SmartLidTM technology works in conjunction with the blinking eye to facilitate natural meibum expression as the meibum melts. The TearCare procedure is usually repeated every year to two years.

Unlike other dry eye treatments, TearCare allows you to keep your eyes open for the duration of the procedure. Through the applicators, consistent, therapeutic heat will be applied to the area, which, along with blinking, will help unclog the glands. In addition, your doctor will express the meibomian glands to help remove blockages which can stimulate oil production, resulting in a healthier tear film and reduction of dry eye symptoms.

Patients report that they find TearCare to be comfortable and pain-free. The Meibomian Glands themselves can be restored to proper function by this treatment process. The patient’s eyes can become appropriately moist, relieving the challenging and even painful chronic dry eye condition. View a real TearCare patient testimonial here.

TempSure Envi for Dry Eye

TempSure Envi is a safe, effective and comfortable way to treat dry eye disease and blepharitis with no downtime. Dry eye patients can now experience longer lasting relief from dry eye symptoms like burning, itching, and discomfort. In addition to treating blocked tear ducts that cause dry eye, TempSure Envi also boosts collagen production, helping to smooth and tighten baggy upper or lower eyelids and reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

Many cases of dry eye are caused by Meibomian Gland Disease (MBD), a condition where blocked oil ducts fail to secrete enough oil or secrete oil of poor quality. With TempSure Envi, radiofrequency energy is used to gently and comfortably raise the temperature of the skin around tear ducts for a defined amount of time, helping to unclog them and reducing the symptoms associated with dry eye. This heat also triggers the body’s natural reaction to produce new collagen, and these new collagen fibers are tighter and denser, resulting in the tightening of excess skin on the upper and lower eyelids.
